The collection consists of notes compiled for the unpublished History of the University of Georgia. It also includes some of Reed's own materials while he attended the University of Georgia. Items include a list of officers from the Georgia Alumni Society, football records, business and personal letters - some concerning acceptance of Registrar of the University of Georgia, "The Life of David Barrow," and letters to and from Eugene Talmadge. The unpublished History of the University of Georgia is a very unorganized set of papers in Reed's handwriting, at times, it is very hard to decipher. In addition, many of his notes are in a deteriorating state, due to the poor quality of the paper.

From 1885 to 1950, Thomas Walter Reed was an eyewitness to much of the University of Georgia's history, as well as one of the best-loved members of the campus community.
